About Waimarama School

Waimarama School is a small rural primary school set in a stunning environment that caters for students from Year 1-6. We are part of a close knit coastal community with strong family involvement and support.

The following school statements are the driving and directing force in all that we do at Waimarama School:

1. Waimarama School is a culturally connected small country school with a low teacher/pupil ratio.

2. We believe that literacy and numeracy are crucial to the development of all children as being the foundation for lifelong learners.

3. Waimarama School embraces Tikanga Maori and is totally committed to developing the notions of Ahua and Mana in our students.
To this end we are an environment whereby students are confident and demonstrate self esteem enabling progression in leadership roles.

4. The staff at Waimarama School are committed to high expectations of themselves and their students. Students and staff are motivated and expected to be diligent and ‘open to learning’

5. Each child at Waimarama School is viewed as being an individual and unique; given opportunities to express themselves within a positive learning environment.

6. Waimarama School is committed to Education for Sustainability (EFS) and have developed an integrated program complete with its own set of guidelines into school life and curriculum.

7. Waimarama School wholeheartedly believe in the notion of Inquiry Learning as being highly effective and relevant for the modern world. An Inquiry model of Plan/Do/Review is implemented at all levels throughout the school.
To this end learning at Waimarama School is student centred and driven.

8. Waimarama School is a health promoting school incorporating the framework of Staff and Student Wellbeing, Treaty of Waitangi, and Health and Safety into all aspects of School life.

9. Deeply embedded into school culture is the notion of respect. We believe that out of Respect for themselves, others, and the environment’ our students are able to express and develop positive values, as outlined in our ‘Value Framework
