MISSION STATEMENT
“Children Come First”
Waimarama School will provide a learning environment that will stimulate and challenge children academically and socially so that they contribute positively.
Waimarama School is a small rural primary school set in a stunning environment that caters for students from Year 1-6. We are part of a close knit coastal community with strong family involvement and support. The following school statements are the driving and directing force in all that we do at Waimarama School.
Board Of Trustees
The Board of Trustees consist of members who are nominated by parent/caregivers of the school. The Principal and staff Representative are also on the Board.
PFA-(PARENTS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION)
The PFA is a new initiative to Waimarama School it's main functions are intended to be:
Coordinate and organise fundraising events
Support extra curricular activities in and out of school hours
Welcome and support new members into the community
Liaise between BOT and families where necessary and appropriate
SCHOOL DONATIONS and STATIONERY
School donations are set at $60 per pupil or $100 per family. A Stationary levy of $40 per child is required, this covers all of the child's stationery requirements for the year at school. There is no need to purchase books, pens, rulers etc. these are all supplied as part of your stationary levy.
Each year the school donation money will be used to provide additional equipment and services that directly benefit students. School donation money is also being used to subsidise the school uniforms. The school uniform incurs a $20 usage fee which is refundable upon your child leaving school and returning their uniforms. The School donations will be receipted and qualify for income tax rebate.
School Fees and the Stationery Levy equate to $100 per child per year. Families can opt for a $25 per term payment scheme. If families have difficulty making this payment, they need t discuss this matter with the Principal. Confidentiality is assured.
OPEN DOOR POLICY
Teachers are happy to discuss pupils progress at any time during the year. However, in order that a suitable time can be arranged, parents are asked to contact the school to arrange a time.
REPORTING TO PARENTS
The school recognises that the education of a child is the joint responsibility of home and school and that it is important that teachers and parents work together for the benefit of the children. Student centred 3 way conferences take place during March, in these conferences students discuss their goals and perceived areas of strength and weaknesses with parents and teacher. Parents can opt for a more traditional parent teacher interview at this time, should they wish. At the end of term 2 a portfolio is sent home containing samples of the child's work as well as teacher input. This folder forms the basis of a parent/teacher conference held at the beginning of term 3. At the end of the year there is an updated portfolio sent home and parents have the opportunity to discuss this with teachers again should they wish.
Staff are fortunate in knowing most parents and will be able to contact them at any time of the year should problems or areas of concern arise. Parents are also welcome to contact the school at any time should they have any concerns.
