Absences
If your child/children will be absent from school, an adult must contact the office on the school phones by 9am with the reason for absence. Should your child be absent by 9:15am without a reason, we will endeavour to contact you regarding your child’s whereabouts. Please ensure your contact details are kept up to date, and a prompt response is given when contact is made.
Compliments, Concerns or Complaints
Should you have a compliment, concern or complaint, please contact your child’s teacher first and Principal in the second instance. If you would like to pursue your compliment, concern or complaint further you can write to the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. There are comprehensive guidelines for this process on our School Docs policy website.
Cycling Wheels
Children must have helmets and shoes if they ride their bikes at school and remain on the cycle/walking path when cycling to school. Younger children should have adult supervision. Our children are allowed to bike/skate/scooter every day at Waimārama School.
Healthy Lunches in School Programme
The Ministry of Education Healthy Lunch in School Programme will continue this year, Rosey’s Pai Kai provides each student with a nutritious lunch every day.
Please pack a drink bottle with water only and morning tea. We also have fruit available daily.
Home Learning
Issued weekly in student homework books through pēke mahi kainga (homework bag). The format in which it is issued is at the classroom teachers’ discretion.
Lost Property
Please check the lost property box regularly. Clothing left at the end of each term will be donated to the local op shops. Please name your child’s clothing.
Medicine
Children with medical conditions are listed in the medical register in the office. These are also shared in weekly staff emails and at staff hui. We expect all staff to be familiar with students who have medical conditions and allergies. All staff are expected to familiarise themselves with the medical list of students who have medical needs.
Prescription medication from home must be stored in a lockable cupboard at the school. Parents are to be reminded twice a year about updating their child’s medical records. For children with severe allergies/medical needs, their condition and treatment will be posted on the staffroom wall. They must complete a medication administration consent form for our records at school.
Staff who administer a student’s medication must record it on the accident, injury/medicine, behaviour incident report form in the office. The form must be given to our administrator for digital entry and filing.
Sunhats and Sunscreen
We have a Sun Smart policy that requires all children to wear a hat at school. School hats are numbered and assigned to each student but they are welcome to bring one from home if preferred.
Please apply sunscreen before your child comes to school. We have sunscreen available for use in the office. Remember to inform us of any skin allergies.
Transport
Our school van runs as a bus each morning and afternoon. This transports students from between Waimārama School and the Ocean Beach Road intersection. If your child requires this service please contact the school office.
